Travelogue

2010 – 2014

“Travelogue” is a group of paintings and associated works, that blend sketchbook drawing sources, memory and imagination. There aim was to suggest the feelings of loss, longing, and anticipation inherent in every journey. Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said “Its the not the Destination, It’s the journey.” and these works encapsulate those moments in time between beginning and arriving.

The use of montage conveys the disconnect between the seen and imagined. Figures populate the canvases, prompting contemplation on their identity—strangers or friends? Colours and nuanced lighting create a mood, enveloping the viewer in the suggestive narratives woven into each piece.
